| CURSE OF STRAHD NPCs Strahd von Zarovich: A vampire, wizard, and the darklord of Barovia. He rules the land openly from Castle Ravenloft under the guise of Strahd XI, claiming to be a descendant of Strahd I, though he is, in fact, the same man. Once a formidable warrior and prince, Strahd's unrequited love and consuming jealousy led him to forge a dark pact for immortality. On his younger brother Sergei von Zarovich's wedding day, Strahd murdered him in an attempt to claim Sergei's bride, Tatyana Federovna. This act sealed his fate, transforming him into Barovia’s first known darklord and cursing him with vampirism. Tatyana, repulsed by Strahd's actions, leapt to her death from the walls of Castle Ravenloft. His curse is that, every generation, Tatyana is reincarnated and he tries to woo her again, but she invariably dies, usually after or while spurning his advances in horror. Ireena Kolyana: A young woman from the Village of Barovia, known for her striking resemblance to Tatyana Federovna, Strahd's long-lost love.Strahd has already visited her twice, believing her to be the reincarnation of Tatyana, leaving her with puncture marks on her neck and a lingering connection she does not fully understand. Adopted by the village burgomaster, Kolyan Indirovich, Ireena has lived a sheltered life, protected from the darker truths of Barovia. However, Strahd's growing obsession has shattered that illusion, thrusting her into the center of the land’s eternal struggle. Her fate is now entwined with the adventurers who vow to protect her, though she bears the weight of knowing that Strahd's curse will follow her wherever she goes. Ismark Kolyanovich: A native of Barovia, known as "Ismark the Lesser," he is Ireena's overprotective brother and the son of the late burgomaster of the Village of Barovia. He seeks assistance to safeguard his sister from Strahd's advances. Madam Eva: A venerable Vistani seer residing at the Tser Pool encampment. Ezmerelda d'Avenir: A skilled Vistani monster hunter and former protégé of the renowned vampire hunter Rudolph van Richten. She is determined to destroy Strahd and offers valuable assistance to those who share her goal. Rudolph van Richten: A legendary vampire hunter and scholar. Baron Vargas Vallakovich: A nobleman who is the burgomaster of Vallaki. He maintains an oppressive regime, believing that incessant festivals and forced happiness will keep Strahd's influence at bay. Lady Fiona Wachter: A noblewoman in Vallaki who opposes Baron Vallakovich. She secretly worships Strahd and seeks to overthrow the baron to align the town more closely with Strahd's interests. Izek Strazni: A native of Vallaki, Izek grew up alongside his sister until they were separated during a dire wolf attack on a fishing trip. Ireena vanished into the woods while the dire wolf tore off one of Izek's arms. Their father rushed Izek to safety, but Ireena remained lost and eventually faded from his memory. Grief consumed their parents, leading to their untimely deaths and leaving young Izek alone — an outcast shunned by society for his disability. Driven by rage, Izek murdered those who mocked him and hid their bodies, but his crimes eventually came to light. Brought before Baron Vargas Vallakovich, Izek escaped punishment through the Baron's pardon and was taken in to live at the burgomaster's mansion. Since that day, Izek has served as the Baron's loyal enforcer. Rahadin: A loyal servant to Strahd von Zarovich, Rahadin was exiled by his own people (the dusk elves) for refusing to bow to a prince he did not personally respect. Rahadin then turned on his people and helped Barov von Zarovich put the royal line to the sword and take over the elven kingdom. Barov rewarded Rahadin with honorary membership to the Von Zarovich Family. Kasimir Velikov: A dusk elf and the leader of those remaining in Barovia. Haunted by the death of his sister, Patrina Velikovna, who was stoned to death by their own people to prevent her union with Strahd, Kasimir seeks a way to bring her back, believing she holds the key to defeating Strahd.
